On August 17th, 1960 the first live action film based on H.G. Wells' pioneering novel "The Time Machine" was released by MGM Studios. The movie was directed by George Pal and starred Rod Taylor as The Time Traveler. George Pal also directed a film adaptation of "War of the Worlds", which is another classic H.G. Wells novel.

TODAY BACK IN TIME...

On May 29th 1895, the first English edition of "The Time Machine" was published in book form. Originally written as a serial and released in a publication called "The New Review" from January to May of 1895. The first book edition was released on May 7th 1895, but this edition was produced using a different manuscript. On May 29th, the first English edition was published using the same manuscript of the original serial. The two editions vary in text, but the first English edition also known as the "Heinemann Text version" is the mostly widely used version of "The Time Machine" novel.
